CHAPTER 1 – SETTING UP YOUR BUSINESS

INTRODUCTION

The first chapter deals with how to start your business. A successful language service business does not differ from any other successful business. Success requires long-term commitment and initiative. There are no quick wins, as building up a business takes time, patience and determined work.

The chapter does not address issues such as choosing the proper type of business, the initial bureaucracy of setting it up, VAT and other official regulations. We concentrate on issues directly relating to starting up a language service business. Information about entrepreneurship and setting up your own business can be found through local authorities or translators' associations and guilds.
